Programme description

Biotechnology is a dynamic, multidisciplinary field that integrates biological sciences with technological innovation to develop sustainable solutions to pressing global challenges, including the rising burden of infectious and non communicable diseases, food insecurity driven by population growth and climate change, environmental pollution, and the increasing demand for sustainable industrial production. At its core, biotechnology harnesses biological systems such as cells, genes, enzymes, and microorganisms to create, improve, and optimize products and processes with practical value. Through advanced tools including gene editing technologies like CRISPR, large scale bioreactors, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence assisted biological data analysis, biotechnology enables the precise design and control of biological systems for medical, agricultural, industrial, and environmental applications. This program provides a comprehensive foundation in core biological sciences, including cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, and physiology, while developing strong laboratory competencies through extensive practical training. It progressively advances to applied areas such as immunology, molecular diagnostics, environmental biotechnology, food microbiology, gene technology, bioprocess engineering, pharmacology, and bioinformatics. The program is highly relevant in equipping graduates with the scientific knowledge and technical expertise required to contribute to vaccine and drug development, disease surveillance, crop improvement, industrial bioprocessing, and environmental protection through bioremediation and sustainable technologies.
